The transformer revisited

Michael Macdonald-Ross, Robert Waller (2000)

Editorial note. 'The transformer revisited' was written in 1974 while the authors worked at the Open University, and first appeared in the 1976 Penrose Annual. It was reprinted in Information Design Journal in 2000 with minor changes and a postscript added by the authors. It is available here.

On 22 July 2009, Pamela Shakespeare, Professor of Practice Based Open Learning at the Open University, returned to many of the issues Macdonald-Ross and Waller discuss. In her lecture 'Revisiting the role of the educational transformer', she traces the 'history and purpose of this role which has made such a contribution to the distinctive position of the [Open] University.' The lecture is available here.
